While it led 2-0, the Olympique Lyonnais granted the draw
(2-2) in Rennes yesterday evening. A draw which slows down Lyon’s players in
the quest on the second place, even if everything is not lost yet. Nevertheless,
they made exceeded by Nice this weekend and are now in the 4th place.
A control on the match
In this match so important in the race to Europe, OL returned
an impeccable copy during a good hour. Speed in the game, and a real technical control,
the collective of Lyon had everything for him. A watchful Costil in front of
Ghezzal, Koné and Lacazette (with the complicity of the post) delayed the first
goal. But it is quite logically that Lyon opened the score thanks to Ghezzal, wonderfully
served by Cornet.
Courbis, winning coaching
When Alexandre Lacazette then doubled the stake 10 minutes
after the resumption by anticipating the exit of Costil with his head, the match
seemed to be perfect for Lyon. But Lyon’s players had the immense error not to
kill definitively this match. OL would have been able to lead 2 or 3-0 before
the end of the first period. They would also have been able to add the third
goal in second period but Lacazette, still him, saw the frame shying away after
a real festival. In the next minute, Diagne reduced the score following a corner
kick. From this moment to the end of the match, there were not the same match.
After a new ball of 3-1 for inevitable Lacazette, what hung on the nose of Lyon
eventually arrived: unless 10 minutes of the term, Dembelé lost its duel in
front of Lopes but Boga, lying in wait, was able to equalize. Diagne and Boga.
Both jokers launched by Rolland Courbis during the half-time put back Rennes in
the match. Well done. In the term of this very rhythmical, very committed match
also, sometimes almost too much (the referee had to bring out nine yellow
cards), OL and Rennes’ players leave finally the very good bargain of the
weekend to the OGC Nice. It’s the only team of the six teams classified by the
2nd in the 7th place before this day to have been imperative. But if OL and
Rennes shared one point, the distribution of the regrets is doubtless clearly
less fair…
Some regrets
If, unfortunately for it, the Olympique Lyonnais does not
end on the podium at the end of the season, it can ruminate this match against
Rennes. In Brittany, Gones let to go in the last 20 minutes a victory which
seemed to them for a long time acquired. Inspired and rulers, the players of
Bruno Génésio wasted a two goals advantage to grant an annoying draw (2-2),
because it makes them lose the 3rd place at the end of this 30th day. And if it
is necessary to greet Rennes’ players awakening, OL only have themselves to
blame.
